Random thoughts.
More pre-prepared stuff for the frying pan (good), but I got some proper pork today to turn into something interesting soon.

Went out to get milk and stuff. Night-dark at 5pm, mild rain, lots of lights from indistinguishable cars on a main road, made me smile. Kind of soothing. Snow'd be be prettier of course, but this was so nicely dark sprinkled with pretty lights, and I like rain.

I got a letter with good news today (but don't want to tell the world about the details, the gist of it is, I have to pay less than 20 euro instead the over 100 I might have had to).

Talking about something else...
Poll #1647384 Talking about something else...

What would you like to talk about?

More cats
Not cats (they're out to kill me)
You forgot to insert my favorite animal
I don't like this poll
I don't like the answers
I have nothing to talk about
I just like polls, I want more polls!

Want to play too! :)
I've seen someone answer writing survey questions, and thought "Oooh, want to play too!" And I even found it right away despite seeing no link. (I'm not commenting on that post because clicking on it said something about screened.)

So here it is:

What's the last thing you wrote?
I'd have to check the dates on the stuff I've started to find out which was last and which I might have forgotten completely. The last I remember was about a guy suddenly finding himself in some kind of alternate dimension created by aliens, or something (I'd have to check for the exact details). That's only a start, too.

Was it any good?
Whatever I forgot probably wasn't. The mentioned one was interesting at least.

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
A paragraph-long start of a story based on an RPG I made up (but lacking players). Doesn't really count.
What does count is my dead vampire story. (The story's dead, killed by 'advice' on what I ought to do. The vampire's just kind of made from anti-life, and quite DIFFERENT to what anyone might think seeing 'vampire'.)

Was it any good?
Very. I started making it up while getting ever more bored with a book I was reading the closer I came to the end, so I kept stopping to read more and more often, thinking about my own idea. (The book was Stephen King's Salem's Lot.)

Write poetry?
Can't stand poetry.

Angsty poetry?
Can't stand a word that means 'fear' being used in place of 'anxiety'.

Favorite genre of writing?
Fantasy, with magic. None-our world.

Most fun character you ever wrote?
Thay, Jodra, Arentus (that's two good guys and an "evil overlord").

Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Whatshername. Tie between Shoyleen and Mairoshi. Both ultra-minor characters from a country that doesn't matter much in the story either. Neither gets any cake.

Best plot you ever wrote?
Can't stand 'plot'. (What that word signals to me.)

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
Scrap plot. Coolest things are all those different pieces turning out to be tied together, amazing myself when I find out about it (while writing). Most of it too convoluted to describe. One easy example would be a country made up <this way> on the spot while writing turning out to have evolved that way because of how I had designed the magic.
There's one sentence that will go near the end of something I have yet to finish that is supposed to have... some effect, but I don't know about cool (and it's a spoiler).

How often do you get writer's block?
I can't really picture how that would express itself. I either feel like writing, or I don't. I either have something to write, or I don't.

Write fan fiction?
Can't stand fanfic.

Do you type or write by hand?

Do you save everything you write?

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
I don't abandon ideas.
And I even hope I can revive the vampire story one day.

What's your favorite thing that you've written?
Seasons & Elements trilogy (missing most of the third book still) and Magic Earth series (serial really, finished).

What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
I am curious whether there's anyone on the world who'd actually like my stuff.

Do you even show people your work?
I would if anyone would want to see it. (For betareading purposes, I want to get the words right - the content's already just as I want it.)

Who's your favorite constructive critic?
I'd like to have one.

Do you have a website for your writings?
There's some excerpts on someone else's page:
I plan to put some of that here, too.

Did you ever write a novel?
A story that ends after novel-length!?
ME has 6*~130k words, S&E will have 3*~200k words.

Was is for NaNoWriMo?
I don't take part in that.
I did write around 100k words of the first book of the ME in one November, but that was coincidence (back then I probably didn't even know what nanowrimo is).

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Lots of fantasy, one start on sci-fi, and perhaps the vampire story could count as horror, not sure on that though.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?

What's your favorite setting for your characters?
I don't move ever the same characters from setting to setting. They each get their own.

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Romance. Mainstream.

How many writing projects are you working on right now?
I'm always working on one thing alone. Currently the idea is to fix something in the second book of the S&E, so that I can continue with book three.
Unfortunately, an idea for something new turned up that won't go away. (It can really get a bit bothersome when a story or just a story idea comes bugging you like a puppy, doggy-smile, tail-wagging, not getting that you can't play right then. I just got the ME to _not_ do that anymore!)

Do you want to write for a living?
Naw. I just write so I have something to read that I like.

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
When I was a kid my grandmother secretly sent in a picture I drew, for which I got some money. IIRC I disapproved of her sending my picture away.

Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Hahah! <g>

Ever written something in script or play format?

What are your five favorite words?
All sorts of words starting with D, but that has nothing to do with writing stories.

Do you ever parody?

Do you ever write based on yourself?
No. While my characters have to match my ideas concerning their character, they have funny ideas that are sooo not my opinion.

What character that you've written most resembles yourself?
None really.

Where do you get ideas for your other characters?
Other characters, respective to which?
I've got a basic idea of what my characters should be like, and from that they make themselves up as I write.

Do you ever write based on your dreams?

Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliffhangers?
Happy endings.

Have you ever written based on an artwork you've seen?
No, but I've written two scenes to a song.
I even found it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&v=-3Hcb_h5lX0#

Write me a really classy simile

Now write me a really dumb simile
No. (Tempted to say: "As dumb as that demand.")

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Of course. I'm glad that I tend to find the errors upon rereading, too. (Some take more rereadings, but I like rereading my stories.)

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak? (How r u?)
Igitt! (That's German for "Ew!", only more so.)

Entirely in L337?
I'd stubbornly read that as "L three three seven", suppressing that I couldn't evade learning what some people wrongly think it means.

Was that question completely appalling and un-writerlike?

Does music help you write?

Do you have a weblog or livejournal?
Now, LifeJournal.

Do you write your life as if it were one of those journal books?
Huh? That's like asking "Do you beat your kids with a stick?"

Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
I am a realist, I don't expect anyone to think that if they ever read it and went on to comment.

Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind!
I've got trouble finding spots because I can't remember quotes, or even just one exact word used.
I'll cheat and copy and paste something.

From the first Magic Earth book.Collapse )

I dare you to take a personality survey as one of your characters

Random thoughts.
Pre-prepared stuff for the frying pan, nice. (I haven't felt like real cooking for a while now. The stew that I still have some of in the freezer must have been the last I did, some time last month.)

German supertalent show, they seem to be bent on ruining every act by showing audience and jury instead of what's going on on the stage. They're probably researching how to do that with the singers too (which wouldn't irritate me nearly as much as missing 3/4 of the show acts).

Oh, and, folks (the makers, not that they'll see this), it isn't live, if anything dangerous had gone wrong, it'd have been all over the news already. It's absolutely pointless to drag it out. (All that causes is boredom.)

On a different note, the day just doesn't have enough hours. I want to read more of Seawasp's story, want to watch 2 different things, and would like to play a game ('lucky' me, there's no games for me). And that totally neglects the plan to fix some stuff in the second book of one of my stories. I want my money back. ;)

what now
MUHAHAHAHAHA. Or something.

At first I thought this place may be a time-sink, what with searching by interest, could keep you glued to the monitor for hours, no?

So I went looking...

Writing, I want to know how to write better. The results sent me off to adjust my interests, adding no short stories, no fanfic, no drafts, no romance, no schmaltz, no anime,... (yes, some positives too: fantasy, trilogies, serials,...).

Somehow I ran into another interest: childfree. Cool, I thought. But all the posts in those communities (that aren't hick-hacking some other community) are about the loser's^Wposter's inability to speak up, and complaining about stupid people and their ill-mannered children. If you absolutely have to talk about kids in child-freaking-free, make up some that are nice![*] (Now I'm wondering how I can get that off the list of inbox notifications, just untracking, unfriending, and not ticking any doesn't do it.)

Ok, so how about: no sex. Nice, someone posting about asexual and aromantic, only to then go off on some heathen holiday family gathering customs.

There's no one like me, I am unique. Muhahaha!

Bleh. <g>

How many people are on this thing? There must be tons, there should be someone with matching interests, no?

Someone told me prickly personalities might gain a following here, but I don't want anything that irritates me (there's plenty, see above :P ), I want something pleasant. I'd much prefer this post to have an entertaining note instead of sounding like a rant, too, but (see writing), I don't have the talent.

[dangling watch in front of reader "You will be amused. You will be amused."]

Did it work?

Didn't think so.

[me goes off to add "no stupid heathen primitive superstitions" to my interests, ah, that's probably too many words again, "no religion" will have to do]

[*] I have no idea where the kids in my stories come from, but they're all nice.

(Does part of this count as 'adult concepts'? Ah, well. Better safe than sorry.)

Random thoughts.
Cold pizza, good.

Huh? Star Trek prime directive in real life? (News said British scientists are not allowed to explore some remote tribe's region because they don't know about the rest of the world. The tribe that is.) Curious.

70+ year olds are advised to stay away from the city I live in. (Following the press release site of the local police, I noticed there's at least one of the following per day on average: 70+ year old run over by car, 70+ year old robbed, 70+ year old run over by car, 70+ year old lost/missing, 70+ year old found dead in a pit, and 70+ year old run over by car.)

Writer's Block: A charming defense
If you could conjure an animal spirit protector, which animal would you choose, and why?

None, what with them all having _animal_ minds.

If I absolutely had to pick one, it'd be a cuttlefish or raven, for their thinking-ahead-problem-solving ability. (And hope they don't see me as the problem.)

I mean, really, who'd want a powerful spirit being with the mind of a (real, not anthropomorphised) cat for example?

Writer's Block: Speak and spell
If you could cast one type of magic spell, which would you choose, and why?

Spell, bah. I'd use it to wipe it and all other irritating concepts off the face of the planet and replace it with something usable.

One thing to do with magic now. That'd be the one thing everyone in one of my stories can do with magic; work it according to brain capacity, training, and never to forget: location (environment).

Which for me here, now, and untrained, would mean no change. Ah well. <g>

(Really, 'spell' totally derails what I guess the intended purpose of the question is.)

Random thoughts.
Pizza good. (Didn't like any for some months.)

A good number of songs would be better with different lyrics. Sound good, text does so not apply to me.

Chocolate for dessert now (too bad going to the fridge to get it does not really count as exercise).

I'm lost.
